Hanne Torvinen on oululaistunut taiteilija, jonka teoksia inspiroivat ympäristön huomaamattomat yksityiskohdat, ajan jättämät jäljet sekä materiaalien luonnollinen muuttuminen. Häntä kiehtoo erityisesti se, kuinka sää, aika ja materiaali synnyttävät kerroksellisia pintoja ja sävymaailmoja, joita on haasteellista luoda keinotekoisesti.

Vain katto on rajana -näyttely tarkastelee oululaista kaupunkiympäristöä kattojen kautta. Teokset pohjautuvat todellisiin havaintoihin rakennusten pinnoista, mutta eivät ole esittäviä kuvauksia. Ne ovat abstrakteja tulkintoja ajan, sääolosuhteiden ja materiaalien vuorovaikutuksesta. Nimi viittaa inspiraation rajattomuuteen alati vaihtuvien värimaailmojen ympäristössä.

Akryyli- ja spraymaaleilla kanvaasille, puulle ja vanerille toteutetut teokset rakentuvat kerroksittain tavoitellen luonnollisten prosessien synnyttämää värien, kulumien ja pintojen rikkautta. Teokset kutsuvat pysähtymään näkymään kattojen ylle, sellaisten yksityiskohtien äärelle, jotka usein jäävät huomaamatta: säröjen, patinan ja kulumien, joissa piilee ympäristömme ainutlaatuinen kauneus ja yhteinen historia.

Hanne Torvinen is an Oulu-based artist whose work is inspired by the unnoticed details of her surroundings, the traces left by time, and the natural transformation of materials. She is particularly fascinated by the way weather, time and material give rise to layered surfaces and subtle tonalities that are difficult to recreate artificially.

Only the Roof Is the Limit exhibition explores Oulu’s urban environment through its rooftops. The works are based on observations of real surfaces found on buildings, but they are not representational. Instead, they are abstract interpretations of the interplay between time, weather and materials. The title refers to the limitless possibilities of inspiration found in an ever-changing world of colours.

Created with acrylic and spray paint on canvas, wood and plywood, the works are built up in layers, seeking to capture the richness of colour, wear and texture produced by natural processes. The works invite the viewer to pause and look out across the rooftops, to notice the details that so often go unseen: cracks, patina and signs of wear, in which the unique beauty of our surroundings and our shared history are held.
