Arkkitehtuurin geometria taiteen kielenä. Pöörin työskentelyn ytimessä on kyky nähdä perinteisten puutalojen yksityiskohdat uudessa valossa. Hän ei ainoastaan dokumentoi historiaa, vaan purkaa sen osiin: räystäskoristeiden rytmi, ikkunapuitteiden symmetria ja julkisivujen geometriset puuyksityiskohdat muuntuvat teoksissa abstrakteiksi pinnoiksi ja moderneiksi sommitelmiksi.

Näyttely rakentuu kahden eri ilmaisumuodon vuorovaikutukselle: Maalaukset tutkivat arkkitehtuurin muotoja ja väripintoja tuoden esiin puurakentamisen voimakkaan, mutta herkän grafiikan. Tekstiilit pehmentävät kovaa geometriaa ja tuovat teoksiin materiaalin tuntua, joka kantaa mukanaan viestiä perinteisten kotien kodikkuudesta ja käsityötaidosta.

Pöörin teokset eivät ole pelkkää nostalgiaa. Ne ovat uusia tulkintoja, joissa menneet ajat ja kulttuurihistorialliset arvot kohtaavat nykytaiteen minimalismin. Pöör tavoittaa teoksillaan osuvasti pohjoismaisen muotokielen olemuksen: selkeyden, rehellisyyden ja syvän kunnioituksen ympäristöä kohtaan.

Näyttely kutsuu katsojan pysähtymään ja huomaamaan arkipäiväisen ympäristömme kauneuden sekä sen, miten historiallinen arkkitehtuuri elää ja hengittää edelleen meissä.

Vuosikymmeniä Helsingissä asuneen Maarit Pöörin taiteellinen identiteetti on syvästi juurtunut suomalaiseen muotoiluun ja koulutukseen. Hän oli ensimmäinen virolainen, joka aloitti opinnot Aalto-yliopistossa (silloinen Taideteollinen korkeakoulu) vuonna 1992. Tämä ajanjakso loi pohjan hänen selkeälle geometriselle tyylilleen ja syvälle materiaalien ymmärrykselle.

Yhteistyö pohjanmaalaisen Annala Oy:n kanssa on luonteva jatkumo tälle polulle. Annala on Suomen ainoa verhoilukankaita kutova yritys, ja tässä yhteistyössä ovat syntyneet näyttelyn villapeitteet. Niiden materiaalin ja sidosrakenteiden kautta Pöörin arkkitehtoniset puutalomuodot saavat uuden, pehmeän ulottuvuuden.

Designer Maarit Pöör’s solo exhibition opens a window into the historical soulscape of the North. The exhibition presents a compelling collection of paintings and textile art, centered around the wooden houses of the turn of the 19th and 20th centuries – the cornerstones of Nordic architectural heritage.

Architectural geometry as the language of art. At the core of Pöör’s work is the ability to see the details of traditional wooden houses in a new light. She does not merely document history but deconstructs it into its components: the rhythm of eaves, the symmetry of window frames, and the geometric wooden details of facades are transformed into abstract surfaces and modern compositions.

The exhibition is built on the interaction between two different forms of expression: Paintings explore architectural forms and color fields, highlighting the powerful yet delicate graphic nature of wooden construction. Textiles soften the rigid geometry and bring a sense of materiality to the works, evoking the coziness and craftsmanship of traditional homes.

Maarit Pöör’s works are not mere nostalgia. They represent new perspectives where past eras and cultural-historical values meet the minimalism of contemporary art. Through her work, Pöör aptly captures the essence of Nordic design: clarity, honesty, and a deep respect for the environment.

The exhibition invites the viewer to pause and notice the beauty in our everyday surroundings, showing how historical architecture continues to live and breathe within us.

Having lived in Helsinki for decades, Maarit Pöör’s artistic identity is deeply rooted in Finnish design and education. In 1992, she was the first Estonian to begin studies at Aalto University (then the University of Art and Design Helsinki). This period laid the foundation for her clear geometric style and profound understanding of materials.

Collaboration with the Ostrobothnian-based Annala Oy is a natural continuation of this path. Annala is the only company in Finland that weaves upholstery fabrics, and the wool blankets in this exhibition were created through this collaboration. Through their material and woven structures, Maarit’s architectural wooden house forms take on a new, soft dimension.
